Zero Waste Group Rehomes More Than 100 Tonnes of Furniture

A Southampton rubbish removal and house clearance company is giving unwanted furniture a second chance after rehoming more than 100 tonnes of reusable items.
At Zero Waste Group, we see first-hand how much good quality furniture is thrown away every day. During house clearances, office clearances and rubbish removal jobs across Southampton and the surrounding areas, we regularly collect wardrobes, sofas, dining tables, beds, cabinets and other household items that still have years of life left in them.
Rather than treating these items as waste, we decided to do something different.
That’s why we opened our second-hand furniture shop in Southampton.
Turning unwanted furniture into new opportunities

Every item that arrives at our warehouse is assessed by our team before disposal. If it’s clean, safe and suitable for reuse, it is set aside instead of entering the waste stream.
The furniture is then cleaned, prepared and made available for sale at affordable prices, helping local people furnish their homes without paying the cost of buying new.
Since launching the shop, we’ve now rehomed more than 100 tonnes of furniture.
That’s furniture that would otherwise have been processed as waste despite still having plenty of life left in it.
Supporting local families
We know that furnishing a home can be expensive.
Whether someone is moving into their first property, replacing damaged furniture or simply looking for quality second-hand items, our shop offers an affordable alternative.
Where possible, we have also donated furniture to people and organisations within the local community, ensuring useful items continue to serve a purpose.
A natural extension of our house clearance service
House clearances often involve much more than removing unwanted items.
Many properties contain furniture that families no longer need but which is still perfectly usable. By operating our own furniture shop, we’re able to recover far more items than would normally be possible.
This approach has become an important part of how we operate across Southampton and the surrounding areas.
More than rubbish removal
Zero Waste Group provides:
- House clearances
- Rubbish removal
- Garage clearances
- Office clearances
- Garden waste removal
- Commercial waste collections
- Bin store clearances
Every collection gives us another opportunity to identify items that can be reused rather than discarded.
Looking ahead
Passing the 100-tonne milestone is something we’re incredibly proud of, but it’s only the beginning.
As more customers choose Zero Waste Group for their rubbish removal and house clearance needs, we’ll continue finding practical ways to keep reusable furniture in circulation while reducing unnecessary waste.
If you’re looking for affordable second-hand furniture in Southampton or need a professional house clearance or rubbish removal service, we’d love to help.
