Do House Clearance People Take Everything?
As one of the leading house clearance companies, we get asked a lot of questions by new customers. One of the most common ones, is will a house clearance take everything. The answer is, ‘it depends’… and let us explain why.
When you book a house clearance with Zero Waste Group (get a quote), you can tell us what you want removing, and what you want leaving. We will then quote for just that. If you want our house clearance team to take everything, then we will (with a few exceptions such as asbestos).
It’s important to understand that even if you want a house clearance service to take everything, some of them won’t. For example, you can pay charities to clear a house, but they might only want to remove things that have resale value to them. It’s best to check.
Also, some house clearance companies might not take everything if they don’t have the license, insurance, or capability to do so. In this instance we mean hazardous items.
Here’s more detail…
Will a house clearance take everything?
House clearance is the process of paying a company or charity to remove unwanted items from a property. The most common reasons are when someone moves out, perhaps a tenant, or if someone has passed away.
Professional house clearance companies such as the Zero Waste Group have the expertise and equipment to safely remove items from the property and dispose of them in an environmentally friendly manner. We are also fully licensed and give all customers a waste transfer note, so you know where the items ended up.
But it is important to understand that not all house clearance companies take everything or anything. Some companies may have restrictions on the types of items they can take, such as hazardous materials or large pieces of furniture.
It is important to check with the company beforehand to ensure they can take the items you need to be removed.
What items Zero Waste Group can take
We can remove almost anything, with exception to dangerous items such as chemical and asbestos. These items will need a different company, but we can advise on that when we clear your house.
Furniture & appliances
We can take all types of furniture and appliances. This includes sofas, armchairs, tables, chairs, beds, mattresses, wardrobes, dressers, and so on. We can also safely dispose of large appliances such as fridges, freezers, washing machines, and dishwashers.
If the furniture or appliance is in good condition, we will work to donate them to local charities.
Personal items and collectibles
We can also clear personal items and collectibles from the property. This includes books, DVDs, CDs, and records.
However, if the item is particularly valuable, it may be worth you getting it appraised first to ensure that you get a fair price.
Garden and outdoor Items
We also offer a garden clearance service and will take all types of garden and outdoor items. This includes lawnmowers, garden furniture, tools, and so on. We can also remove old sheds and greenhouses.
Exceptions to the rule… hazardous materials
It’s important to note that most house clearance companies will not take hazardous materials such as chemicals, asbestos, or anything that could be considered a health hazard.
This can include (but is not limited to):
- Medical waste
- Paints and solvents
- Gas cylinders
Professional house clearance companies will also refuse to remove illegal items from a property, including:
- Stolen goods
- Counterfeit items
