The council also offers a paid bulky waste collection, which runs to its own schedule and generally requires the appliance to be left accessible outside.
If you’re buying a replacement, some retailers will take the old appliance away on delivery for a fee – worth asking when you order, though it only works if the timing lines up. And a clean, working fridge may find a second home through a local charity or online marketplace.

The rules on fridge and freezer disposal
Fridges and freezers are treated differently from almost any other household item, in Winchester as everywhere else in the UK.
