Why use Zero Waste Group for garden clearance in London
We work around the access, not against it
Most London garden jobs are won or lost on how the waste gets from the garden to the vehicle. Carrying laurel and bramble through a hallway needs floor protection and enough people to keep the trips short. Loading on a red route or a restricted street means working to the window we are allowed, not stopping when it suits. Basement flats, roof terraces, service lifts and shared rear alleys all change the crew size. We ask about access when you book because it decides how long we need, and we would rather price it correctly than turn up short-handed.
The paperwork protects you from your borough
London councils enforce household duty of care harder than most authorities in the country, and the enforcement often lands on the householder rather than the operator. If waste traced back to your address is found fly-tipped, the fact that you paid someone to take it is not a defence. What counts is showing you handed it to a licensed carrier. Zero Waste Group is licensed under registration CBDU323204, you can check that on the Environment Agency’s public register, and we email you a waste transfer note after every job. Keep it. If the clearance relates to a rental or a business, you are required to retain it for two years.
Heavy loads are priced and planned, not improvised
Wet turf and soil are far denser than they look, a stripped hedge fills a vehicle quickly, and old decking and fence panels usually come up with concrete spurs still attached. On London streets that also means we cannot leave a part-loaded pile on the pavement while we come back for it. We size the job before we start, bring the right number of vehicles, and sweep up before we leave.
What has to go by a different route
Asbestos is the common one, typically in the roof sheeting of prewar and postwar garages and outbuildings, which are still widespread across London’s suburban stock. Chemicals, garden pesticides, fuel, gas bottles and tyres also need separate handling. On older inner London plots, particularly former industrial or infill sites, excavated soil is occasionally contaminated and needs testing before it can be moved. If any of that turns up we will tell you at the quote stage and point you to the right route.
Big jobs, multi-load jobs and gardens that have been left too long
We are not a man-and-van operation working out of a transit at weekends. Zero Waste Group is a licensed waste carrier running a scheduled fleet, with crews who do this full time, uniformed teams in liveried vehicles, and a booking system that holds the slot you were given rather than the vague half-day window you get from a classified ad.
In London that reliability matters more than it does anywhere else we work. If a crew fails to show for a permit-restricted street, a booked lift slot in a managed block or a checkout date on a tenancy, the job does not simply move to tomorrow, it moves to whenever the next window opens.
Volume is the other half of it. A garden left for several seasons, a probate property where the outside has gone the same way as the inside, a rental where the outgoing tenant left the garden and the shed full, a plot being cleared before a sale, an end-of-project strip-out after a rear extension: these are multi-load jobs. Where a garden has no side access and everything comes out through the house, a job that looks like one van from the back door can take considerably longer to move than the pile suggests. We would rather size that properly at the quote stage and send the right crew and the right number of vehicles than have you book three separate visits.
Green waste in any quantity, hedge and shrub cuttings, brambles, small trees and stumps, turf, soil and rubble, decking, fence panels, posts and trellis, sheds and their contents, greenhouses, garden furniture, barbecues, pots and planters, children’s play equipment, trampolines, ponds and liners, and the clutter that accumulates behind all of it.
Where an outbuilding is coming down as part of the job, tell us in advance. Shed and garage demolition on a boundary is straightforward, but not something to spring on a crew that arrived expecting bagged cuttings.
